'Textile Futures Research Centre SecondLife™ Island' 2008 - Present

This Second Life Island showcases TFRC members' work in a co-curated exhibition by Jane Harris, Caryn Simonson and Andrew Sides (University of the Arts, London).  Created from images of TFRC designers’ individual works in the physical world, the new works take on a life of their own, transforming pattern, object or figurative image. New design scenarios have emerged through changes in scale, individual to series of works, 2D to 3D works, fashion items to decorative immersive interior spaces. The online virtual 3D space, Second Life™, enables work to be made, presented and viewed in a different and global context in which a breadth of design solutions might be considered by the designer and potentially new audiences such as architects, scientists, material designers, educators and artists whose thinking connects with the interests of the research group.  www.tfrg.org.uk
